Hi,
My name is Richard Smith; I am your local LDC Instructor covering CUMBERNAULD & Central Scotland

.
I am married and live in Cumbernauld with my wife and my son (my first pupil).
.
I have been driving for over 30 years, and for most of these years I have been involved in Road Transport in one form or another. During that time I have driven Cars, Bikes, Vans, Buses, Heavy Goods Vehicles and even a Police Car, in this country and also in Europe. Until recently, I was employed by one of the major International Healthcare companies as a Transport Manager at their Glasgow depot. As part of my duties I had to keep up to date with legislation regarding all types of road users and vehicles, and also to supervise and instruct new drivers who were upgrading their licence from “B”(car) to “C” (truck). This has proved helpful experience as now, as a Driving Instructor, I have taken the next step and am training new drivers right from the start; from Provisional Licence to Full Driving Licence; teaching skills that will mean “Safe Driving for Life.”
.
My qualifications:
- Member of the Institute of Advanced Motorists. (IAM)
- Certificate of Professional Competence in Road Transport Operations (Freight) National & International.
- Member of the Driving Instructors Association. (DIA)
- Driving Standards Agency Approved Driving Instructor (Car).
Franchise
I work under the Franchise of Learner Driving Centres, the third largest Driving School in the UK (and the largest in Cumbernauld) and have been trained to teach using the unique LD System. This system accelerates the learning process, allowing the pupil to learn to drive and pass their test in a shorter time and with fewer lessons (and therefore, at less overall cost).
.
Pass Plus
Once passed the Driving Test, I can continue to teach using the Pass Plus program. Pass Plus gives new drivers experience and confidence when driving on motorways and dual carriageways; at night and in all weathers; town driving and rural roads. This qualification also substantially reduces insurance premiums for new and young drivers.
.
My car:-
The training Vehicle I use is the ultimate School Car, the outstanding
BMW MINI COOPER D.
This car, famous for its manoeuvrability, will make the learning process, not only easier, but also fun. The Diesel engine is environmentally friendly and also very easy to control at junctions, on the open road and during slow-speed manoeuvres, which is especially appreciated by new drivers. The engine in the Mini Cooper is one of the cleanest engines on the roads, producing very low emissions. (LDC-Cumbernauld is a Carbon neutral company).
If you would like to learn to drive, or brush up on previously learned skills, give me a call or an email and I will post out a Free Information Pack. Alternatively, I would be pleased to visit you at home so you can see the training aids (Workbooks and DVDs etc) and see the car and have any questions answered. There is absolutely no obligation to book lessons. However, if you would like to learn to drive, with me and with the MINI, we can plan what options would suit you best.
.
Best regards, and safe driving, Richard Smith.
